Ban Sexually and Medically Explicit Commercials During Childrens' TV Viewing Times

On an average day, children are exposed to countless sexually vulgar or medically explicit commercials. Examples include: erectile dysfunction treatments; bladder sling class action lawsuits; Viagra or Cialis; breast implants (advertisements for them or class action lawsuits for failed implants); and diet supplements featuring scantily clad women.

These commercials are played during daytime and early evening programming, on stations that cater to children (such as Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network),during the evening news (often watched by the family together), and during family programming like Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. In two hours watching family programming we counted 15 of these commercials. I do not believe the same people who watch Spongebob are going to be interested in erectile dysfunction treatment.

Children do not need to be exposed to erectile dysfunction or bladder sling commercials, particularly those that list "symptoms" that are both disgusting and hard for a child to understand. They also do not need to see scantily dressed women showing off their bodies, trying to sell diet pills.

The content of these types of advertisements are exposing our children to information they are not old or mature enough to understand. Please ban these commercials during the hours children typically watch television, such as before 9 pm. Our children are bombarded with advertisements constantly...let us at least protect them from those that are sexually or medically explicit and vulgar.
