It is almost guaranteed that you will not receive the advertised internet speed you are paying for; depending on how far you live from the exchange you’re lucky if you receive half the speed. Fibre optic technology will enable us to achieve super-fast broadband speeds. Currently we are not even scheduled to receive this service until after 2014, which is over 5 years after Fibre broadband was available in some homes in the UK.
A day without the use of the internet is now a rarity. The average Broadband speed in the UK is 10 times faster than the average speed we receive from our internet exchange in hipperholme today, yet we pay the same price. We could say goodbye to buffering (loading) while streaming videos and TV shows (e.g. “BBC iPlayer”) and hello to the high definition that they are designed to be watched in. If this petition is successful our connection will rarely if ever be lost, meaning no more interruptions when performing high intensity tasks (e.g. downloading a movie on “LoveFilm”).
Would it be fair for someone to pay exactly the same price to receive 3 television programmes as someone who received 10? No. So it shouldn’t be fair that we pay the same for our lesser internet service. Let’s not wait 2 years, let’s get fibre optic now.
Let the council take action by signing this petition to put us in the present era of Broadband technology.
