As a victim of identify theft from someone stealing my debit card I lost $2103.00 there was no reason this should ever have even been able to happen. It is as simple as making vendors, businessess of any kind have accountability that the debit or credit card they are using for purchases or services rendered are being paid for with funds that are legitimately theirs as it being a requirement that you must have a picture ID present and show it with your credit or debit card or you will be denied purchases. If you write a check you have to show proper ID to match your check instrument and it should be the same with credit and debit cards if you are using them as POS (point of sale transaction) It would greatly reduce identity thefts and people from freely bing able to fraudulent use someone else's cards. And would save alot of hardships on people that are victims of such behavior. Alot of Americans now even receive their payroll checks direct deposit which debit cards are linked to and then someone steal it or steal the numbers to make purchaes online and etc. and pay their bills with the victim's money, then the victim and their family has to go without and not even have their check to pay their bills, purchase food, etc. So much of this is going on even the financial institutions are not reimbursing individuals anymore on unauthorized use because alot of it is being done by family members that have stolen individuals cards and they no longer want to have to carry that financial responsibility of replacing the funds, and in general if it is a family member they will not prosecute so their again there is no responsibility or reprecusssiion for individuals conducting this type of behavior. Just as you need ID for a check instrument written it should be the same with other forms of payment.
