As a cyclist, I don't get carted around in bullet proof tanks like our beloved politicians. As a result, I have time to see the utter filthy disgrace that drivers leave behind after chucking their ahem branded goods packages of alcohol, yummy fat-fest take aways, sandwiches and sugary drinks, coffee, and anything else they have just "consumed."
Councils increasingly do not clear up after these lazy, selfish sods. The derelict state of the environment, both urban and rural thus produced, has a profound negative affect on the mental health of the population (quite apart from the appalling nature of what these "products" do to physical well-being.)
So, here's a suggestion: the free market-obsessed UK 'government' should create a 'market' in the collection and recycling of all packaging by imposition of mandatory 'deposits' on the kaputalist polluter. They could go further. The likes of Special Brew (!) McDonalds, Starbucks etc. have shown absolutely no interest in the behaviour of their 'consumers' post 'consumption' of 'product' ~ however, their insane branding/advertising drive means their products are easy to identify and verge clearances would be financially rewarded when tons of stuff are returned to the polluter for mandatory price. It's a winner.
