The worst mining accident in over four decades happened just 2 years ago, when blatant safety violations caused an explosion that took the lives of 29 miners in West Virginia. Years later, Big Coal's agenda is preventing safety reform--leaving coal miners lives at risk.
Without progressive legislation backing miner's rights, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) cannot effectively regulate coal plants. Proposed legislation suggested that the MSHA be granted the proper authority and oversight to monitor coal plants--but Big Oil lobbying prevented any real change.
The lives lost in the 2010 mine explosion have been compassionately commemorated. But without coal plant reform, mining companies will continue to walk away with huge profits while industry workers suffer. This year alone, 13 lives have been lost in a drastically under-regulated West Virginia coal industry.
End to preventable mining casualties by supporting coal mining reform!
