Get the Buses Back on the Road; But Don't Leave Us Behind!
The HRM Transit strike began on Feburary 2nd at approximately 10:30 am.
Since that time, we, the HRM Public, have been part of the conversation between the above listed parties only by means of the press and various press releases. We, the HRM Public, have also been responsible for the largest share of issues this strike action has brought to the public.
As of this date, we, the HRM Public, have had little say in the process. This Petitionâs goal is to give to these parties a generalized list that the HRM Public has voiced as it wants. Being the primary sponsor of finances to the parties mentioned above, these goals we, the HRM Public, wish to achieve should be given serious weight during contract negotiations.
These are the requests of the HRM Public to the above mentioned parties:
1. Metro Transit, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508 (Halifax) and any parties critical to contract negotiations are to return to the negotiation table IMMEDIATELY.
2. Any settlement reached between these parties MUST NOT adversely affect the Metro Transit Ridership or the Halifax Regional Municipality Taxpayer. In short, we are not agreeable to rate or tax hikes to support any contract negotiations.
3. The ATU 508 is to conduct itself in a professional, respectful, and more sensitive manner when picketing. We ask that they immediately cease verbal assault of the essential service of Access-A-Bus that has generously been allowed for OUR elderly and disabled persons. We, the HRM Public, recognize you have your right to picket or delay departure of these services, your behaviour is reflective of a lack of respect and support to this vulnerable portion of Our population.
4. We request that if both sides are truly sincere in their goal of settlement that neither party opts to 'walk away from the table' until a settlement has been reached. We, the HRM Public, would appreciate this level of respect paid to your consumers.
The remedy sought from all parties is to return Metro Transit bus services to the road in as close to a fashion as it was prior to the strike as soon as possible.
It is the goal of the individual creating this petition to serve this as soon as the signature goal is reached.
Thank you for your time.

Request to the Executive Committee to Renew Tim Heckler's Contract
We keep asking “Where is the leadership? The leadership of this Association has and will always be in the Executive Committee, not in any separate group including a Board of Directors with an agenda. We
need to step up and make a stand to:
Request that the Executive Committee renew Tim Heckler’s contract unless the board can come up with concrete reasons why he should not continue as our CEO. Reasons such as a “new direction” and “fresh look” are not valid reasons to dismiss a valued 30-year employee of our association who, under the direction of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, has been a driving force in the growth of membership, modernization of our world headquarters and negotiated millions of dollars worth of endorsements for USPTA.

Petition to Warn the Japanese People of Mercury Danger
To: The Food Safety Section,
The Department of Medicine and Food Bureau,
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare
E-Mail: syokucommunication@mhlw.go.jp Fax: +81-3-3503-7965
To Whom It May Concern:
There is worldwide concern that mercury accumulated in the human body may pose a serious health risk, especially to pregnant women and children.
As you know, dolphin meat from drive hunts in Taiji, Wakayama prefecture, proved to be highly contaminated with toxic chemicals such as mercury, methyl mercury and PCBs. Repeated chemical analyses have shown that the level of mercury in dolphin meat is much higher than the maximum allowable level set by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan.
We understand that the role of the Department of Food Safety Bureau is to promote food safety, thereby ensuring the health of the Japanese people. We urgently request the following:
1. Prohibit the sale of dolphin meat that contains mercury exceeding the maximum allowable level set by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW). The sale of food items with toxic agricultural chemicals exceeding the maximum allowable level set by MHLW is already prohibited as a result of the âPositive-list System,â which was adopted in 2006. Since mercury is as harmful to the human body as toxic agricultural chemicals, the âPositive-list Systemâ should also apply to mercury.
2. Until the above request is put into effect, consumers must be warned of the dangers associated with consuming mercury contaminated dolphin meat, in much the same way they are being warned of the health risks associated with smoking cigarettes: Every store that sells dolphin meat must be obligated to post a prominent warning label on each meat package, stating as follows: âThis food item possibly contains mercury exceeding the maximum allowable level set by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Mercury accumulated in the human body may harm your health.â
Sincerely,

Defeat Big Tobacco, Pledge to Vote Yes on Prop. 29!
The best way for us to combat the disease is to take this issue back to the source. Cigarettes are the most common contributing factor of lung cancer, and are the very beginning of many tragedies. Proposition 29 on California's June ballot would raise money for cancer research by raising taxes on cigarettes.
Discouraging people from purchasing cigarettes while attaining funding for lung cancer research would help prevent and treat lung cancer.
Big tobacco is very aware that this initiative will be bad for their business, and will surely spend tens of millions of dollars to get people to vote no on the proposition. But they could care less about lung cancer or our health, as long as they're making money.
Defeat big tobacco and say yes to a healthy California. Pledge to vote YES on Proposition 29 in California's June ballot!
Listen to the people
Over the last two years many residents of ARC have seen an increase of rent with a decrease of services. The point of this petition is to make sure that the rules that ARC has established when original leases were signed are upheld and adhered to, and if change was made the reason in doing so. We as upstanding residents would also like to be able to establish rules that also benefit us and our living standards that ARC must uphold.
-Residential street repair and upkeep
-Security services reinstated or established
-Better upkeep park that has a direct impact on residents
-Riddance of rules that do not effect and/or prohibits residential continuance

We Refuse to Pay Extortionate Smart Meter Opt Out Fees
Because utility rates include the cost of the smart meter and associated infrastructure, those choosing to keep an analog should not only be able to do so for free- we should get a refund!
It is now clear that utilities are only requiring opt out fees in order to prevent a mass abandonment of the technology. According to industry research, more than 60% would opt out if the choice were free.
Any so-called 'opt out' fee is equivalent to a protection racket run by criminal utility syndicates. We refuse to be gouged. We refuse to pay this extortion. We stand together in the face of this injustice.

Many business leaders ignore fundamental values. At a time when they need to restore our economy and spirit by bringing value.
